These photos were part of a set we produced a little while ago for Martin McQueen, owner of Momentum Surf based in Edinburgh. We worked with our model Suzanne and some of his boards to produce photography for his website which you can see in use here.
This type of photography is always fun and this day was no different. As luck would have it the day we set to shoot also had the brightest sun and calmest sea that had been seen for months. The North sea was also surprisingly warm considering I spent half the morning up to my waist in it trying to avoid dropping my camera!
There are important differences with commercial photography when compared to editorial or consumer portrait photography. One of them is that you can't make your photos look to "artistic" as businesses are trying to show off products or services. It often helps if you can see what it is they are selling ;)
In Martin's case he runs a surf school and sells his own custom surfboards and beachwear so down we went to North Berwick on this oddly calm day to try and shoot surfing.
I wanted to make sure Martin's logo that features on his surf boards shows up in all the photos so also got some close ups with the board in the sand:
Commercial photography always has client's requirements to be fulfilled and for Martin we were able to give him beyond what he had originally hoped for. Perhaps we can do the same for your business in Fife, Edinburgh or anywhere in the area?
